6:30 AM.  Two sisters have arrived for another busy day at Broward Health Imperial Point Hospital.   Face mask – check; gloves – check; gown – check.  Now they are ready to conduct walking rounds with the night shift team.

It was mid-March when local hospitals in Broward County were beginning to transition their Progressive Care Units to accommodate patients ill from the Coronavirus. In response, Amy and Chelsea put on their leadership hats and volunteered to work the newly designated COVID 19 unit.

Past Key Club Lt. Governor Amy received her Bachelors of Science degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology at the University of Florida and completed her BSN from Florida Atlantic University in 2017.  A Nurse since 2017, she is experienced in Neonatal ICU and Cardiac Telemetry.  While future goals include achieving her Masters and Doctorate of Nursing Practice to become a Nurse Practitioner, she is content now to serve her community as a bedside nurse.

When not donning her protective gear for work, she loves to spend time with her fiancé Kevin, her family and her ‘fur babies’ Winston and Teddy.  And, a Disney World fanatic, she is looking forward to the reopening of their theme park once again!

Younger sister Chelsea pursued her studies at Florida State University after graduating from Pompano Beach High School where she was an active Key Club member.  Upon graduation with a BS in Psychology she then followed in her sister’s footsteps to complete the accelerated Nursing Program at FAU.  Future plans –  continue on the educational pathway to Nurse Practitioner.  Then?  Traveling and working in a variety of professional nursing positions to find the right calling for her.  Chelsea tells us that “For now I am where I need to be”.

It is now mid-May, two months into a universal health crisis that has changed the lives of so many.  We are grateful for all of our health care providers and so proud of our Kiwanis student leaders who are now providing selfless service in this time of great need.
