As the light emerges after the storm, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the safety of our families. However, there is no denying the devastating impact Hurricane Helene has had on Florida’s families across the state. Last night, Governor Ron DeSantis reported that over 532,000 Floridians were without power, although power had been resto
red to 1.86 million customers. The news outlets are reporting over $15 billion in damages. And, in the morning light, the extent of the damage becomes more apparent: homes lost, loved ones suffering, and a tremendous amount of work ahead.
In times like these, our community comes together. Kiwanians have been instrumental in filling sandbags, clearing trees and brush to minimize damage, volunteering at schools to ensure children have food, and much more before the storm. Even in the final moments leading up to the storm, they did not stop. They planned clean-up efforts and budgeted for potential supplies needed. These are our Kiwanians, and they make a difference.
